Published prices for a 30 second animated explainer video range from about £300 to more than £20,000, and the average starting price across 45 agencies is £2,960, according to a 2026 study by the UK studio Squideo. Every package goes through the same three stages, and each one waits for your approval:
- Message: script and storyboard. We write or polish the script and sketch every scene. You approve what the video says and shows before anything is designed.
- Look: illustration. We turn the approved storyboard into custom illustrations in your brand. You approve the look before anything moves.
- Motion: animation. We animate the approved designs, add music and sound, and deliver the video.

Why the range is so wide: according to Explain Visually, entry-level videos rely on basic motion graphics and simple graphics, while the most expensive ones add 3D, complex effects and advanced sound design. Squideo found that premium agencies, which usually start above £10,000, sell storytelling depth, creative direction and brand consultancy alongside the video.

What changes the price of an explainer video
- Length. The biggest factor. Every second is written, designed and animated, so a 60 second video costs twice as much as a 30 second one.
- Level of illustration and animation. Clean backgrounds and up to 2 characters (Clean) cost less than detailed custom illustration (Advanced) or premium illustration and animation (Premium).
- Characters and scenes. A story with many characters and places needs more design work than one hero and a clean world.
- Changes after approval. The approved script is the base of the whole video. Small wording tweaks are fine at any time. Changes to content, structure or length after approval affect design and animation, so we quote them as a scope change before doing them.
- Source files. Included in Premium, for teams that want to edit the video later.
How a staged process protects your budget
Changes cost least when they happen early. Rewriting a line during the script stage changes a document. The same change after the illustrations are done means new drawings, and after the animation, new drawings and new motion.
That is why nothing moves until you have approved how it will look. You sign off the message first, then the look, then the motion, and each stage has its own revision rounds.

How long does an explainer video take?
Delivery starts at 7 days for a 30 second video on Clean and Advanced, and 10 days on Premium, counted from the day we have everything we need to start. Longer videos take longer, and every stage waits for your approval, so we agree on a schedule before we start.
